I have always wanted to have a Jon that I could throw on the roof of my car, while I trailer my boat.i only have one car, and I can't trailer two boats so I would like to throw one on the top while I trailer my bowrider. I found an 8' Jon with a custom paint Job new ply deck with carpet, and a trolling motor for $375. I don't know how stable it is. Can it fit two people around 130 lbs each? No gear involved. Please give me the truth, if it's gonna flip easily I guess 2 boats at once isn't happening and I shou,d just get a 12er and a trailer.

8' jon... as in flat bottom low sided aluminum... with a plywood deck and I assume pedastal seats... IMHO that would be iffy on anything but the smallest electric only waters

The truth? The truth is I'd have no idea how stable a random 8ft Jon boat is with an added plywood deck and w 230lbs of people. When they built it the manufacturer rated it for so many people (at 150# each) and so much weight (including people) maximum, and the 'truth' is that many people w no more then that much total weight the boat is safe. Add a deck, add/change seats and it becomes more unstable. W/out knowing what boat, how it was originally rated and seeing pix of how its been modified, the 'truth' is we'd have no idea how unstable it is now. The seller hopes the fancy paint and other changes convince you to ignore the little voice in your head that's telling you it looks unstable. Unstable is unsafe, IMO. LISTEN to that little voice......

With two people a lightweight 12' jon is car topable. I have roof racked my sunfish plenty of times and that is around the same weight.
