D&D Marine (Franks Tackle) tells me if I want to buy a Crestliner with anything but a Mercury it will cost me $800.00 to re-rig for a Yamaha.

Does this sound correct??

I do belive that would be pretty close, considering mounting control unit and assos. wires, cables...then hang another engine.
I don't think that's far off.
See what the others here think....

P.S., welcome aboard!!!

I think that's probably in the ballpark.

The 150 would be fine.

The quality of the dealer would make my decision for me, not the engine.

If the same dealer is offering both, I always opt for the domestic nameplate.

I would go with a boat that had more engine choices. Which Merc? which Yam? I like the Crestliner w/F150Yamaha myself. Do you care about resale? Enjoy your new boat.

Re: $800 to re-Rig ???

Ask your "dealer" to call Crestliner parts dept. They have a fairly cheap (less than $100) adapter harness (made by Teleflex, I believe) that allows them to plug a Yammy into the Merc harness. No other guage changes are needed unless you desire the Yamaha digital ones (which changes everything). However, perhaps they are not a Yamay dealer, and you're talking about them "buying" a Yamaha motor from another dealer, or..... . Consider that some Yamys are also very hard to come by!!! And, for that matter, some Mercs,Hondas, Johnsons, 'rudes etc.... Or maybe they just want to focus on Mercs.....??? Ask them just what they are gunna do for $800.00 !!

Re: $800 to re-Rig ???

not saying the merc is a naightmare. its been my experiencewith most yamahas riggrd with low cost rigging suffer problems. several low end entry level boats use non stock gauges and rigging. most have problems with rigging failures early in life.if ya rig merc use stuff designed by merc for merc, same as most anyother. yamaha has about the best control box on the market. the commader series and the OMC stuff was rather short lived for some reason. the cost difference between rigging with the good stuff and the generic is maybe 500 dollars at the retail level but more at the wholesale level. the dealer or the manufacture(in the case of pre-rigged) pockets the profit. noting like a pre-rig package showing up with a total electrical melt down due to the elcheapo ign switch failed and engaged the starter and the starter sat and cranked until the cables melted. cost the customer almost 1500 dollars to repair it and yamaha covered nothing. was not a yam flaw. manufacture covered nothing cause they claimed it was the swictch manufacture. switch manufacture said the switch only had a 6 month warrenty. we did rerig with all yamaha stuff and added a battery switch. had it been rigged with yam stuff and suffered the same failure yam would have covered it with no worries. same as merc usually will. suzuki is a different story.

Re: $800 to re-Rig ???

Hi,
Yamaha F150 is probably one of the best (if not the best) overall 150 hp 4-stroke today for normal use. It has been on the market since 2004 and You do not read many complaints here at iboats forum about them. In general Yamaha has good reputation among the users, at least if judged by JD Power study (that Yamaha is proud of as expected).
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/news/dy..._ranks_yamaha_highest_third_year_running.aspx

Personally I have no problem to use for example a Mercury, Suzuki, Honda or Yamaha as long as it is taken care of. If I have a good Mercury dealer and service center nearaby I would probably select that. If same situation for Yamaha I would probably select that instead.

But Yamaha F150 is very good, that has all test shown that I have read.
I use Yamaha F115 (2003) 4-stroke myself and I'm very satisfied with how it runs and the general quality. I have 5 year warranty on mine (3 extra years) as I'm little worried about all the electronic "boxes", that is in today's outboards.

Re: $800 to re-Rig ???

One more thing, I talk'd to Crestliner yesterday, and they in-fact HAVE Yamaha pre-rig (orginal OEM stuff) that they can/will install for a dealer (if requested, ya gotta have your dealer ask, ya know). Now you just have to have your dealer order a boat for you and your dealer can install a Yammy for you! If they're not on backorder!
