Man O Man,,lol,, That sure looks like a very good site,, Now I got to try an find out how much the seals are for what I have before I take mine apart,,, Has anyone had to put in the seals to keep the water out of the lower unit??

An one more thing I like to ask,,, When my motor is idleing low then my water pump is not pumping that good but if I give it just a little gas then it is just fine So should this be noarmal,,??? I put this motor on my pontoon by myself an had to hook up the cables an all an they seem to be ok,,

No, you should have a good telltale at all times. Make sure the telltale is clean as they clog easily. Sounds like you need to install a new impeller gaskets and wearplate.

BTW - Some of the gearcase seals are pretty tough to install. I recommend you install the easy ones and retest. Replace the waterpump base. It will come with a new driveshaft seal. Make sure the driveshaft is clean and well lubed, befor you try to install the new waterpump base. Replace the washers on the drain and fill plugs, fill with new gear lube and retest.

Here's a good chance for one of the pros here to do a "sticky" on the procedures involved in testing and replacing the seals on popular Mercury engines....

Will someone step up to the plate? Maybe an accompanying video and/or lots of pictures?

Maybe it already exists on the site someplace...but I've been looking and haven't found it.

Re: 80hp Mercury

Russel48 Your best bet is to buy an OEM MERC manual, (not seloc/clymer) for that motor. you must have serial number to buy the correct manual. About 100 bucks new,can be ordered from a merc dealer, Or @ Mecury Marine .com, I think. There are pleny OEM manuals on ebay for half the the price. but you will need serial number also, for the correct one.
I hope this helped.
