80's Model "Yamaha" Mercury????

Help guys. After working on my 98 Force 40hp for the 3rd time this season, my mech told me I should just replace it. He knows a guy that has a 80s Yamaha Mercury 40hp for sale at about $500 (he said Merc put in Yamaha engines in at that time). He said he knows personally that its a good motor.

Are there any known issues with this era Mercs? I got burned pretty bad by the Force I currently have, so I want to do my best not to fall into another trap. Any comments, or help is appreciated!!!!

These little Mercaha's are pretty much bullet proof. A little noisy, but very reliable.
