So I invested in a bigger boat with a fifty on it and I am new to the larger size bracket motors with temp sensors on them so what does this sensor do? Is it a horn or does it shut the engine down when high temps are occurring?

Specifically, the temp device is a simple on/off switch. When the cyl head temps hits about 212 degrees, it shorts to ground and sets off the hot horn in the control box. When the engine cools down to 175, the switch goes to "open" and shuts the horn off. (175 degrees is still too hot for normal running.) The device cannot be used to drive a temp gauge.

Follow these simple steps.---Find the tan wire from the sensor and the rubber boot on that wire.--------Slide the rubber boot back to find the metal connecter.----Turn key to " on ".----Now touch the metal connecter to ground.---Horn should sound.
