81 Merc 90HP Power tilt/trim

The power tilt/trim does not work on my motor. Presently in the up position when lever pressed down it just clicks and doesn't move the motor. Worked last year. The motor was accidently jarred (not when running) when someone was in the boat in the driveway and the motor did hit the concrete no damage to the prop motor does turn over just the motor will not lower with the power trim/tilt button. Could it be a cracked solenoid?

Doubt it. More likely a stuck trim motor from rust and sitting. The impact shouldn't have anything to do with it. Try tapping on the trim motor with a SOFT hammer...like plastic or rubber. Hard hammers can dislodge the permanent magnets.

Braeman, Often the power trim/tilt units do not operate due to low voltage at the solenoid or a bad/dirty ground. You should "jump" the solenoid from the 12V battery cable to the green or blue wire which runs to the trim motor. If the motor operates it is likely good, and the problem is in the wiring.
