I have an 82 Johnson 50 hp model # J50belcta. I had the carbs cleaned and a new waterpump installed last month. I have had the boat out twice before last sunday(fathers day) and it ran fine. Sunday it was kinda doggy and when I hammered the throttle she would sputter and die. When I did get it to revv out she would only get to around 3000 RPM and she didn't plane very well. Before sunday getting to plane was no trouble and @ WOT she turned right around 5000 RPM. Sounded like it was flooding out. I haven't messed with it at all between trips and I didn't need to add any gas. I don't know if my mechanic changed the plugs when it was in and maybe they could be the problem? Getting an eyeball on them is my first try and swapping them out. I will also do a test on my spark and see if it is as strong as it should be. But then I need some advice on where to go from there.

Also wondering if possibly the fuel pump could be the culprit??

very possibly old fuel lines.

Ethanol and fuel lines
replace all fuel line with Alcohol resistant lines. Ethanol deteriorates, the rubber lines, then they start to sluff off on the inside, going directly to the carbs. Settling to the bottom of the bowl. Contaminating the carbs high speed jets. clean a rebuild carbs, flushing fuel line before connecting to carbs.
