82 merc 150 black max oil/gas ratio

My 150 black max smokes worse than a chimney! Ive been using 50:1 ratio with quicksilver 2stroke oil. I have had other outboards that dont smoke an 1/8 of what this one does. Im aware that its not synthetic oil but the smoke is bad. Bad enough its loading up. Should i try a leaner blend or just go synthetic. Thanks

You have something else bothering you. I would suggest that you have too much prop (pitch) for the load at hand. You are running the correct ratio for the engine and although I run syn or syn mix...slight but noticable decrease in smoke on mix, you are loading up your engine by too much load for the rpm's at hand. Check your engine rpm's at WOT with an accurate tach and if not near the top of the rated rpms or higher, get that problem fixed and your smoke will disappear.....if you have no other problems.

A leaking fuel pump diaghram will cause lots of smoke. The rebuild kit is pretty cheap....
