Re: 82 merc 90 HP (Timing out)

The flywheel must have a key. It has sheared, and apparently sheared at very high speed maybee?
I remember having a West Bend (I was just a sprout backj then), that sheared the flywheel pin, and I couldn't hardly see the keyway. At any rate, I know for fact it's "big brother", the 115HP has a key and keyway,as does the 7.5, 9.9, 35, 50, 650,25 and 20.Don't know about any of the rest, because I never werked on any of the rest.

On disributorless ignitions, nothing else can throw the timing out by 90degrees like that, outside of plugging the switchbox in 90deg out.

Re: 82 merc 90 HP (Timing out)

12'er I pulled the flywheel off a while ago, It's held down with 8 bolts connected to what looked like the top of the crankshaft. No keyway, unless it"s hiding in the trigger casing or somewhere about, Could a wire from the trigger to the switchbox have come loose or a broken wire or something like that happened causing this time jump? It's got me bewildered , cause I don't know where to start my troubleshooting. It was running so,so until I advanced the timing some appairently causing the flywheel to jump out 90 degrees, and giving me a no start,I haven't messed with the swithboxes.Any advice you or anyone can give me would be deeply appreciated, My pride and pocketbook is keeping me from putting it in the shop at this time. All this was done on a water muff, no high rpm's while on the muff. Thanks

You've got 3 posts floating around this board. I told you where the keyway is on one of them.
