I have a 28' Bayliner with a Volvo Penta 260a motor (350 Chevy) and I am thinking it is a AQ280 outdrive. I bought the boat last year and the boat would turn left real sharp but would barely turn right at all. I recently started working on the steering. The steering wheel would only turn right like half to 3/4 of a turn and it would turn left like 2 full turns. I finally got it adjusted so that it turns both ways about the same. I measured the back of the outdrive from one of the rivets on the right and left of the outdrive to the trim tabs on the right and left. I found that my outdrive turns left 3 more inches then it will turn to the right. Feels like something is stopping the outdrive from going any more to the right. Does anyone have any ideas why it would turn more to the left then right? Ive looked inside and out to try to see something that would stop it from turning but havent been able to find anything.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... My guess is, the cable isn't centered in the Helm....

That has nothing to do with it. I have disconnected the steering and the outdrive still turns 3 inches farther to the left then the right. I thought the arm connected to the top of the outdrive with the pinch bolt through it was hitting my electric motor that lifts the outdrive up but it is not.

Post a picture of how your steering cable is mounted on the transom and transom shield.

When this occurs, it's because the last person who had the collar steering fork removed, did not re-index the splines within the spindle arm correctly .
The stop-to-stop steering control is incorporated within the spindle arm..... not in the fork.

These are fine splines, and the two will go back together with one or two splines off. More commonly only one spline off! One tiny spline off makes a considerable difference.

You'll need to loosen the pinch bolt, drop the collar steering fork down, re-index for dead ahead (90* indexing), and lift it up into position, and then tighten the pinch bolt again.
Now his drive will articulate equally from Port to Stbd.
I've corrected many of these over the years

I do believe that is whats wrong with it. When my outdrive is straight that arm is angled to the passenger side of the boat. Im assuming that i need to take off the 2 side bolts that go through the fork into the helmet off and the 2 at the front of the helmet? I am doing this right now. Is there anything else I should grease or clean or check while i have this apart? Very much appreciate the help. Boats gonna be alot easier to dock now lol.
