Hello all!

Long time lurker, first time poster!

I currently have a 1983 Bayliner Capri 19.5. The current v6 (4.3) is blowing white smoke out of the PCV valves! I bought a boat 350. Its complete from belts to Bellhousing.

I am wanting to drop this V8 into my boat. I have done car motors, but never a boat. I have read several posts on motor swaps, but nothing clearly referring to my model. The V8 runs great on the runstand, has good oil pressure, etc.

Can I shoehorn this motor in without removing the 270 outdrive? If so do I need to get one of those alignment tools?

I'm sure there are questions to my questions on this one, and I thank yall in advance for the help.

You don't have to pull the whole outdrive, just the upper gear box. Like This Then take the clamp ring off and pull the flywheel cover (bellhousing) out too.
Since you will be moving the engine around quite a bit for alignment and new front mounts, you really don't want everything bolted down tight.
I would strongly suggest you replace both bearings in the flywheel cover before putting it on the new engine.
Here is the alignment procedures for those engines. Not really an alignment bar, if that was what you were referring to.
You don't really need a tool, any wedge to verify the tabs are equal distance.

All the links above are covered in the sticky at the top of this forum (First threads)
