83 crossflow tiny tach

I have a tiny tach on my motor but it only works if I pull the plug wire back a bit creating a gap between the plug and wire. It is for the motor as I got it right from tinytach I was wondering if anyone has heard of this? I am running QL 16 V champion plugs Should I change them?

From previous posts, there is a 140hp and a 150hp mentioned. What motor is this problem with?
