83 force 85hp -no forward or reverse

hey guys-just got this back from the shop- had impeller changed and prop hub replaced-compression 125 on all three cylinders-took it out 1st time since work done- engine did not sound very good- clanking noise and stalled-restarted ok but now will not go into forward or reverse- when in forward position engine revs right up and sounds great but not going any where-hoping something simple but maybe lower end??? i have had nothing but trouble with this motor!!! my first boat-the wife is not real happy. thanks guys-love the new forum look

I would be on the phone with the repair shop first thing.<br /><br />Someone forgot the bolt into the shift linkage. Follow the shift linkage assembly on the motor and you will probably see it disconnected right at the worst spot to reach....usually under the carbs. A bolt or a pin is missing. If that is the problem be sure to replace it with stainless steel.<br /><br />Bob
