83 John. 115 Surges above 4k RPM

My '83 Johnson 115 starts runs like a timex, as long as I don't get above 4000 RPM. It surges and bogs down. Replaced Fuel filter same results. Any Ideas on where to start.<br /><br />Thanks<br />Kajun

Sounds a lot like fuel starvation, Kajun.<br /><br />Check fuel tank ventilation, fuel lines and fuel pickup for restriction, fuel connectors for air leaks.<br /><br />Finding no problem there, overhaul your fuel pump. It may be failing.<br /><br />Let us know what you find. Good luck.

Carbs or Coils Carbs or coils. Isolate the cylinder and go from there.
