HAVE A MERC. 50 & THE WATER COMING OUT IS TO HOT TO KEEP YOUR HAND IN FOR ANY LENGTH<br />OF TIME.HAVE REPLACED IMPELLER,HOUSING & BOTTOM SEALS,ALSO HAVE REPLACED SIDE COVER GASKETS & HEAD PLATE GASKET.THE SIDE COVER & HEAD PLATE ARE COOL TO TOUCH, NOT WARM AT ALL.THE WATER COMING OUT OF PEE HOLE SEEMS TO HAVE GOOD PRESSURE AT HIGH R.P.M. THERE IS A NOTICABLE DIFERENCE AT IDLE NOT COMING OUT AS HARD.MOTOR STARTS FINE<br />AFTER RUNNING & IDLES FINE NO HINT FROM MOTOR THAT IT IS HOT. WHATS UP!!!

I had the same motor 83 50 merc and noticed the same thing, hot water out of the pisser, It would even be hot in the driveway on ears. I just learned to live with it. I think it is just the way they're built. I had mine 6 years never had a problem with it. All the mechanics I talked to say this is a great motor, very few problems. If you can put your hand on the head and it doesnt burn you, you're probably ok. I see your from Kansas, maybe you bought this boat from me?<br />Good luck.<br />CU

THANKS, I DO THINK I WILL LIVE IT, NONE OF THE WATER WAYS INSIDE WERE PLUGGED.ANY OTHER INPUT ON THIS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

This is pretty normal for these motors. These motors do not have waterjackets like other motors, the water circulates directly around the firing dome instead of around a head. If you are still concerned about it, you can get a melt stick and see if it is getting too hot by putting in on the top of the motor above the cylinders and see if it melts. If it does, then you have other problem.

Getting a temp. gage may give you piece of mind, you would know for sure the heat problem is under control. Good luck.<br />CU
