I'm restoring an '83 Carver Yacht. It has a 5.7 litre chevy with a Merc 888 outdrive. Is this a Alpha, Bravo or what? I'm Considering swapping out the whole works for a complete fuel injected repower. Does the complete system come with all the ECM components? stevecyoung@hotmail.com

I have a 888 outdrive on my 74 Silverline but it is mated up to a Ford 302. I didn't think they made the 888 as late as '83. Sounds like the original outdrive may have been replaced. The 888 is a Pre-Alpha drive by the way. Like I said before, it sounds like there has been some parts or cases swapped out. But, I've been know to be wrong before....
74Silverline

Ayuh,........They got Different at the Alpha Gen II point.........

If you go with the Full Repower Package,.... It Won't Matter.....
You'll just have to drill a couple new holes to bolt on the New Stuff..........
The transom hole might need a little trimming,.. Or Maybe Not.........

The 888 drive was the moniker Merc used when mating a ford 302 witha #1 or #1R drive from ~1973-1977. Sounds like someone hung a replacement drive on it.

If you do a full repower I believe you'll need a new engine to dash harness.

DHP
