'83 Suziki prop slipping?

My 83 suzuki would rev up and loss power and speed. This happened off and on for months.
We finally took the boat and motor in for service and was told the prop had spun. It has a ruber insert. We got a new prop and it has worked fine.
We now have about 75 hrs on the new prop and the problem seems to have started again.
It strted to rev up and loose power.
My question is this.......... can there be another cause of this problem?
If it indeed is spinning again..what is spinning? Is it the motor shaft on the splined inner rubber?
Or is it the the outer rubber spinning on the inside of the prop housing?

Doesn't matter which example, it's just that the interference fit of the rubber between the two pieces is not enough to keep it solid.

The way you check is to scribe a mark from the outer piece to the inner piece. Run the boat, if the lines don't line up anymore it is spun. It's better than the other things that can cause this . . . ;) You need to carry two props as this can leave you stranded. Swapping is another way to troubleshoot.

Re: '83 Suziki prop slipping?

one thing i have found .
is if u dont idle it right down before putting it into gear
forwards /revers .
could be another cause of this . as the moter has some rpm to it still and a sudden bang to the prop like that could spine it . over time . it would wear itself clean inside and wont be able to go no where .
so if you are putting it into geat with a lil rpm .
id sudjest wait till it idles down . almost completly . and then bang er into gear .

Thank you men.
I marked the hub and rubber insert and have gone out twice and can't duplicate the problem.
But I understand this is kinda normal?

Not normal to rev up and not go faster for any reason and then for it to go away. Unless you are ventilating the prop . . . that's an operator and trim and setup problem if that's the case. Do a search for ventilation . . . ;)

Sir, Someone once suggested that the pieces of the rubber hub bind up inside and keep it from spinning for a time.Until the stresses make it slip again.
Does this sound right?
