84 70 hp johnson seahorse idle high in nuetral. IS THAT NORMAL????

got the engine running good ..fixd the pee hole prob...Do have a dumb question,but dont know a whole lot about this engine yet....Is a high idle in nuetral normal?????Not too high but enough to question...Is it beccause the engine is not in the water or in a garbage can??? Have not tryd forward or reverse..Will the idle lower in gear ??Or is it the control cables that need to be adjusted...Any help would be greatly apprectd.....

It's normal. It will idle down in the water, especially when you put it in gear.

Depends what high idle is and you really want to watch putting it in gear with the engine revved, it will take it for a bit then you will shatter a gear, they don't like to be shocked like that.

At he top of this forum search "link and sink" thaty will make sur eeverything is lines up as it should be, on an outboard the shift timing and throttle are all lincked to gether, if one is off a bit it won't run right.

What rpm's are you showing while in idle?

THANKS MAN!!!! IT WORKS!!!! It idled rite down to normal once I put it in a garbage can of water , in stead of that muff decvice ,that forces water into it...... RUNS LIKE A CHAMP NOW!!!!!! APPCRT IT PATRICK!!!!!
