My mariner has no spark. The last few years when cold, starting has been difficult. Once warm starting was fine. Now nothing. Have been waiting 3 weeks for an opening to have repaired. I'm ready to try and fix it. Advise would be appreciated. Thanks

First make sure its turning over at full cranking speed. If its a little slow she want crank. Clean all battery connections and grounds on engine and battery first. Pull sparkplugs and with them out check for spark again. If now you have spark. Disconnect the rectifier and retry with plugs in. These are basic things to start with.

Re: 84 75hp Mariner no spark

I have a new fully charged battery, new plugs, and fresh gas. I've checked all wiring, and it seems to be fine. I checked the multiple coil & did not receive the correct readings (it had continuity, when it shouldn't have). I wasn't sure if a bad stator or something else could cause the bad readings. I don't have the correct meter to check the CDI unit. I'm willing to replace some parts on the motor becaues of its age & the cost of a mechanic. An educated guess would be appreciated.
