I've been trying to figure out why my '84 90 h.p. vro V4 rude shuts down after about a minute at w.o.t.
At first I thought the alternator was going, but after your valuable insights, I realized that's not the problem. I put in a brand new battery, cleaned the fuel filter, and it still shuts down. It will restart and run again, but only for about 30 sec. It seems to run at low throttle, without shutting down. Could it possibly be the fuel pump? Any ideas? I'm running out of ideas.

Try pumping the primer bulb, and see if that circumvents the problem. If so look at the fuel pump diaphram.

DHP

I'm not real mechanically literate. What is the fuel pump diaphram, and what am i looking for?

I forgot to mention,.. I replaced a section of fuel line just before the carbs. Could there be an airlock from this? Should I have done something to the line other than just replacing it? If so, why is it only at open throttle that I have a problem, or am I not running it long enough at low throttle, to have time to experience the problem?
