I'm going thru this engine and found the pee tube fitting which screws into the block was clogged. That's a pretty small orifice so thought to put a bigger one in (shown in pic). I wonder if this larger orifice might cause a cavitation problem in the water pump? There's nothing like modifying something only to find it screws up the works!

The tell tail ( pee tube) releases some small amount of water before entering the engine. Too large of a hole may remove too much water. and cause problems.
What would be gained by re-engineering the engine cooling? Why not return to factory condition by cleaning out the original fitting or replacing with a new one.

Being that the fitting has clogged up I figured with a bigger orifice it would not clog up so easily..

If it lasted 30 years before it clogged I'd just clean it out and be done.

You would have to monkey the fitting on the other end too and you're just asking for a leak or trouble with the cooling system not holding enough water is to warm the motor up properly.

The flow rate from the telltale is ultimately controlled by the size of the orifice in the outlet nipple in the lower cowling.

I do nor think enlarging the bore of the fitting on the exhaust manifold cover will make much difference and equally I don't see a lot of point in doing so.

Do not however enlarge the orifice in the outlet nipple or you could starve the cooling system of water and upset the pressure control.
