My new winter project is a17ft 1984 Asi-Imperial boat with a 115 merc. I bought off of craigs list for $100.00. I'm not new to boat renovation, but I value you guys advice I posted a few picture, but have many more on my project. The floor, transom and seats are completely rotton. (the boat did come with a ceder tree growing out of the floor at no extra charge). My question is about the seats. Will a high back seat with a 14-17" pedestal eventually losen or strip the screws on my new floor, or should I go with ski boat lounge back to back seat? Only my wife and I will be useing the boat during the summer. Thanks

I have seen and heard of guys on here reinforcing the floor under the seating area with thicker decking and using larger fastners to handle the extra stress Me personally if I doubted the rigidity I would use a aluminum plate below the decking with threaded holes.

I aquired my boat in the same condition, and doubled the floor on the right side (2 layers 5/8" ply), and used a tall pedestal and a bass boat seat to drive for visibility and so I could swivel around to watch the skier. It lasted about a year before the fasteners pulled out. And the whole time I was using it it felt weak. I replaced with a 6" pedestal. I still get good visibility, and it feels a lot more secure. The other reason I doubled the floor on that side was it is where all the scuba gear gets dropped on the floor.
