I'm having the above problem. Problem is, I can't always duplicate it. Especially when I have the tools needed to diagnose it.
I can be running idle in the driveway with the muffs, cruising along at 35 mph or 10 mph. Sometimes I'll get the constant horn indicating an overheating situation. Shut it down 10 minutes or so and I'm fine, sometimes for 10 minutes, sometimes for a couple of hours, sometimes for the rest of the day. Strong tell-tale at all times.

Tell-tale tells me the pump seems to be working OK. Thermometer on the heads read about 135F on port side, 143F on the starboard side, indicating no overheating exists when I measure it (manual says 163F+ is overheating). I should mention that the only times I get to measure it are when I can't get the alarm to sound.

Seeking advice.
Thermostats? Temperature switches? No idea when either were last replaced.
Also, is it normal to have such a temperature difference from one side of the engine to the other?

Thanks in advance.
