I just purchased a 75 HP Merc 1984. I was able to get it runnin and took it out a couple times already. The idle was alittle high so I adjusted that, and since I was working on it I thought I would get new plugs. After I replaced the plugs it will crank, but will not start. I put the old plugs back in and tried again, but to no avail. I checked the compression and it is 135, 109, 125, the 4th clynder I could not get to measure it. I also pulled the plugs, and saw that there was some fuel on it. Please help, as Salmon season will be ending shortly, and I need to FISH. Thanks in advance for your help!

This is a repair question, Paul, in the Non-Repair forum.

I will move it to the Merc Troubles forum.

Go to the FAQ section and do the troubleshooting in the "Outboard wont start" article.

Good luck. :)

It's common for CD plugs to be damp did you lean the carbs to much? did you ck.for spark be careful if you dont have remove the black yellow wire from the switch box it's the kill wire and will tell you if the problem is in the engine or the boat wiring, if still no spark ck. blue, blue white and red,red white for voltage this will ck. your stator if you have voltage then its a good chance its your switch. Hope I haven't confused you BOB
