84 mercury 115 NO REVERSE

My Friend and I did a impeller on his 1984 mercury 115hp 6 cyl and now it will go into forward and nuetral but when you shift into reverse the prop still goes forward. any suggetions on what to check?

Well lets see, on my Merc., if you get the lower shift shaft in the lower unit out of sync with the shift shaft in the middle unit(Say if someone shifted the control while lower unit was detached.) when you put em back together that could cause the problem you describe. Don't know if thats your problem but give ya something to think about.
