Tearing down my above mentioned outdrive, At the top of the swivil housing and below it is what looks like a rubbery seal or whatever around the outside swivil housing the housing, its pretty much destroyed, is this leftovers from a seal or is there someything special that goes there to seal exhaust gases from around the bearing housing?

Tks Frank

There is a rubber ring that goes between the upper & lower case at the swivel. Not sure exactly what you're looking at. Maybe post some pictures?

yep thats what it is, but not much left of it to tell what it looked like and I dont see it on any parts breakdown drawings, dealer dosent see it on his parts list either, I guess it to shield water from swivil shaft and housing, anymore help would be appreciated.

actually, it is a lip type seal. I was just looking at one out in the garage. The lip faces down as shown in the inset pic... $45? apparently there is a sprinkling of unobtanium on them too..

Tks guys for your info, but No.38 not what i mean, where the top part my swivil bearing meets the inner spoked part of the exhaust housing there is a rubbery sort of sealer, not the seals down in the swivil housing, Im embarresed to show a pic of how bad the top of my swivil housing looks, maybe previous owner tried to build up or seal up around the swivil bearing, im also trying to get that exhaust housing up off the swivil housing, its on there good, tried heating a bit and prying on the case but dont want to break anything, all case bolts removed (7) from the ex housing but it wont budge , any ideas?
post pic today.
Tks again Frank

I think the nylon washer I mentioned is #34 in Howards exploded diagram.

#34 - 0310648 - THRUST WASHER (Not available)

Go here (http://shop2.evinrude.com/) & click "Stern Drive" from the drop-down, pick year, pick engine size & finally pick model number. There's an interactive list of exploded diagrams with part numbers for each part.

Thks guys for your input pics and links, its not the nylon washer either, closer look this am indicates someone run a rubbery silicone substance around the swivil housing on the underside of the ex housing that goes over the swivil housing, why who knows! im still struggling to get the ex housing off over the swivil housing, heat, penetrating fluid and patience so far.
Next question, the pump housing removal, are the plastic blue inserts in the pmp housing protecting threads that you wrench bolts into to push out the housing or bolts for a puller?
My compete gasket seal kit should be here tmrw so maybe this weekend i wil get it all resealed and back on boat, i hope!

They are just caps for the puller taps. You should get a new set in the impeller replacement seal kit.
