Hey guys need some help.. I have an 84 Sea-ray Seville that I helped my uncle rebuild.. All was good except shift lever was tight and had a real hard time getting the handle to pop into neutral for throttling warm up. So had a spare shift lever with old cables attached. I removed the old shift lever from the old cables and did the same to the shift lever on the boat. I made no cable adjustments. Before I changed the shift lever I ran 40 mph at about 4200 rpm WOT now with the new shift lever when I am able to hit 40 mph its at about 5500 rpm and 30 mph is about 4200rpm.. This all makes no sense to me and I am worried at running that high of rpm. Could the different shift lever make one of the adjustments move or be off?? The only other issue I have is the classic Mercruiser stumble once she's really warmed up and wanting to die out when you put her in gear unless you catch it right. Since I got her though she seemed to do that.. Normally idles about 6-700 but once she has really warmed up over the day she wants to idle at 4-500 which is the only time she seems to stumble when I try and put her in gear.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... The 2 have absolutely Nothing to do with each other,.....

Maybe yer uncle changed the prop when you weren't lookin',......

Don't run that motor over 5 grand, or you have pieces of a motor, rather than a runnin' motor,.....

Prop it for a Wot of 4800 rpms, with a normal or light load,......

The idle/ stumble issue is carb related,..... a rebuild might be in order,......

Nothing else was done to the boat.. I bought it off my uncle once he got to sick to use it last year been at my place the whole time since. Only change I made to it this year besides putting a new gas tank vent and hose, plus pickup and anti-syphon valve, but didn't think either of those would make any difference. That was just trying to straighten out the stumble when warm. Off the top of my head I'm pretty sure prop in 14/19 but yeah loved the way she ran last year and I took it out this year before I switched shift lever and she was about the same. Boat mechanic set timing last year is it possible it slipped unless the vent or anti-syphon has made something change which I don't see.. Thanks for any possible info.
