Doing inspection and resealing outdrive, question boys, the bearing carrier behind the prop, removal,I have the 4 bolts out at the back end of the carrier, but of course its bound up with permatex, heated the outside casing around it and a little pressure with a puller, but noticed what looks like a low profile thread inside the case, does the carrier thread out or just pull out with the puller. Info would be greatly apprecialted

It is not threaded in. They can be a bear to remove sometimes. PB Blaster will help along with a little heat and a slide hammer.

Im getting a bit testy with this , used a can of penetrating oil, put a 2 leg puller on it, heated it, while puller was tensioned, used the slide puller and it hasnt cracked a smile, just wonder if the lower portion with the big o ring is holding it down below, 4 bolts are out, any suggestions?

Been away so havent been on form or done much on the boat, yes it was in salt water, is there a corrision penetration fluid that would help loosen the carrier. havent tried the oxycet torch yet.

Hate to say it but it may be near impossible to remove it. Heat and PB Blaster and a good puller.

A solution of muriatic acid and water (25/75 mix) will dissolve the degraded aluminum. Just don't leave it on longer than needed, or it will start to eat the solid aluminum as well.
"Add acid to water"
Rinse with plain water after, try the puller again.
