Hello everyone - My name is Keith, I'm West of Chicago. Just picked up the above. Have receipts for new lower end, starter, complete tune-up. Mercruiser 140. I knew it needed a floor. I've got the floor out, the stringers appear to be solid when tapped with hammer. I have not cut out any styrofoam, it is dry, should I? Just as precaution? I do need to check the transom. Can I get some advice or suggestions as to what else to look for. While I have it open, I am going to replace fuel fill tube, vent tube and fuel line. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them resized. Thanks in advance!!!!!

Welcome to iBoats!

Drill core samples in the foam, stringers, motor mounts and transom. Tapping with hammer tells you nothing. 1/4" drill for sampling stringers, Motor Mounts and Transom. Drill about 1" deep.
Use a 2" PVC pipe with teeth cut into one end and hole drilled thru the other end to insert a screw driver to assist with twisting. Top of foam can look dry and be water sitting between the hull and the foam.
Looking forward to seeing the pics!!

I'd remove a small section of foam to see if there's water under it. Then drill core samples low down on the stringers Motor Mounts and ttansom.
