Hi all.
I purchased this v6 motor tonight and got home, after taking off the starter and cleaning that cranks now ok,
I popped out a plug from each side and visually found no spark, i also stuck the multimeter on the coil input + and no voltage on that when turning over the motor.

Can someone give me some ideas and tests to try with what results i should have.

Is there a kill switch or tilt safety switch on this that stopping the ignition kicking in?

also is there a manual online anywhere for this?

cheers all.

Remove "all" of the spark plugs in order to obtain the fastest cranking speed. A rpm of approximately 300 rpm is required for the stator under the flywheel to energize the powerpack.

If still no spark... unplug the large RED electrical connector at the engine then crank the engine re-testing for spark by jumping the starter solenoid. If you now have spark, either the ignition switch is faulty or the kill switch lanyard is off the kill switch plunger.

If still no spark, visually inspect the stator under the flywheel for cracks and/or a sticky looking substance dripping from it down upon the powerhead area (melting down). If the stator is melting down, replace it.

You could also pull the black/yellow wire at your powerpacks. This is the wire that grounds out to kill the motor.

Re: '85 235hp Johnson starting problems no spark

hi all, great news turns out when i pulled the plugs it turned quicker and i got a spark which lead me to the started, i pulled apart and wasn't too happy with the state of it so gave it a real good clean and also purchased a new brush set for $50 and hey presto it cranks like a beast. i then squirted some start ya bastard into it and it fired up, i think a birds nest blew out the prop too, it then connected the hose ear mufs then ran till warm and the idle seemed a little fast so i changed but it didnt seem to change then when warmed and revved a little it sounded good then back to idle which was a little quicker. thanks for your assistance.
