85 35 hp mercury idle question

when i first start my engine its a 1985 35 hp mercury it runs and idles great after a wile of driving when i come down to idle it idles high
then it clunks in to gear cause the high idle is there a idle adjuster on the carb or is it the cable

Probably the cable in your case. Look for any tight turns or loops and open them up if you have can. Otherwise replace the cable.

the cables are new ans there arnt any kinks in them is there a idle screw on the carb
