85 7.5 hp gamefisher carb trouble?

after going through the motor i'm back to the carb & linkage. can anyone tell me how the throttle linkage controlling the butterfly in the carb should be adjusted. right now it dosent seem to even start to open until about 2/3's throttle. it is definately not starting to open when the controll is at the start position..........help motor wont start!.......& i've got to go fishing. thanks

That sounds about right as many outboard motors rely on timing for the first half of the throttle action or thereabouts.<br /> <br />Lets assume you have spark. If so equipped, pull the carb and look closely at it's flange area for a rubber thing stuck in there. Sorta like a tube thing. If so equipped check that closely to make sure it has no splits in it. As this is the fuel pump and will cause the motor to fail to run. They are only a few bucks at Sears.<br /><br />That's just a thought. As I had experienced this in the past.
