My white force 125 has the model#1251X6A. I've read that white is "85. ID plate says "86, so what"s up? I ordered an' 86 owners manual, shop manual, and parts catalog and now that I'm at the part ordering stage, I don't find things in the books that look like my motor parts. For example, when I took off the propeller to clean the sacrificial anode and grease the shaft, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the order of removal. Consulting the manual, all it said was remove the assembly. The parts catalog had parts shown that didn't come off my shaft, and I had two spacers in front of the prop, not one as shown. Don't know fore and aft of these spacers. Using only one doesn't allow the nut and washer to contact the prop. Do I need an '85 manual etc? I'm needing thermostat and gasket, carburetor repair kits (2), fuel pump repair kit, water pump rebuild kit and probably more as I progress. Kind of lost as to which direction to go.

go to www.mercruiserparts.com

They have good breakdowns for ordering parts. You can select which engine you want by model number.

The differences between the 85 and 86 are rather minor so I would not buy a new manual just yet.

As to the different spacer set up on the prop. This is not unusual if the previous owner replaced the prop with a different one or did not have the propper thrust washer.

From the anode, you should have the following.

a thrust washer (may be painted into the back of the prop)
propeller
flare washer ( a big nylon cup)
plain washer
propeller nut
may or may not have a cone anode

If you have two washers in front of the prop, either the thrust washer is incorrect, the prop is incorrect or both.

Got a feeling it's the wrong prop. The only way it will slide inside the gear housing is without a thrust washer. Then it rubs something and I'm sure the brass splines will ride up onto the shaft, never to be removed. Mercruiser parts site wasn't any help. Still wandering around the web trying to get at least a correct diagram so I can go after the correct parts. Thanks for trying.
