Hello, newbie here, I have a 1987 Force 85 that has had some speed problems, but before I get into that my first question (of probably many more to come)is; would a bad impeller cause a motor to lose power??

Thanks for any info

If it's getting hot, it can lose power and cause all sorts of expen$ive damage.

I don't have a temp buzzer, and there is no power as soon as Ifirst put it in.

Start with the basics. Check compression, gas, and spark for each cylinder. I suspect you have dropped a cylinder.
And since you are blowing that fuse, you may find you have an ignition problem.

Re: 85 Force Impeller

OK Let's start over, last year I hit a small sand bar and spun the hub on my prop ( so I think, when I hit the gas it reved way up to regular sounding rpm, I don't have a tach, but it sounded right, but now I can't get it over 5-10 mph)..SO..I put on a spare and tried the next day, and same thing, lots of rpms and no speed, NOW i also have some ignition problems and it is the end of Aug last year....done for the year.....So now I have replaced the WHOLE ignition system, done a compression check #1=120 #2=119 #3=120, cleaned carbs, replaced all fuel lines, replaced fuel filter, new plugs, now it sounds real good, and idles quite well, but when I hit the gas.......5-10 mph and now I think my impeller might be tweaked because it is not shooting water out as much as it used to, about 3 feet or so, now it just sputters out at full throttle. Any Advise? or does anyone want to trade my Force for a good pair of oars!!!!

i'd take a set of oars over a chrysler force anyday. :D
my 1985 force 50 (i ended up giving away)did the same thing, im pretty sure it was in the lower unit. but i would do the checks that were mentioned first. compression, spark, etc. i wouldnt rule out a spun hub. good luck

i just wanted to add one more thing! if one of these guys wants to buy a force motor, i'd sell it. sounds like your on the verge (or past it) of putting more money into it than what its worth, "i've been there" i could go on & on but dont want to pisss anyone off. :D

Re: 85 Force Impeller

I have a 1984 85hp Force and could not ask for a better engine. I know zero about outboards except I have not had any problems with mine.
The only thing I did was put new plugs in it when I bought it. I take it out 3 or more times a week and run at least 6 gallons of gas through it each time, maybe more if pulling the tub or skiers.
It isn’t that hard to tear the lower end apart as I have done it a few times on other force/Chrysler engines.
