I recently bought a 1984 bayliner that came with a 85 HP Force, i have put probably about 50 hours on it since i have had it. The compression in all 3 cylinders is 145psi. This morning i took it out to try and catch the morning bite. I began to motor out to my favorite fishing spot and could not get my boat up on a plane, she started up fine, she ran at lower speeds fine also. In nuetral she sounded great throttling out the outboard. I had her out there all day yesterday and she did great. The only problem i have had since i have had the boat is that occasionally when we would be on a plane she would all of a sudden feel like she would bog down and slow down, I would start her back up and she would be great, sometimes it would do it once more and be fine for the rest of the day and other times she would just be fine. Seeing that I am new to outboards and all, if someone may have any info that may help it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 85 Force needs help

Well come to find out it was the throttle advance that was sticking and not allowing it to move. I had to end up replacing the controls because (my dumbself) tried to force it into shifting anyway which bent the controls all up (expensive lesson), but she is working fine now.

Thanks for coming back and updating us on the problem you had and how you resolved it. It helps us that don't know the answers to keep that in the back of our mind when we go to troubleshoot. :)
