85 force only runs well tilted up

i have an 85 force serial 856x5L. have been using often for three years. recently changed lower unit and water pump. cool perfectly and now has problems running while tilted completley down. noticed water leaking out between powerhead and motor leg. would this affect how it runs? any answers welcome

Pics of the leak?
Possible the Ethanol(you in the US) is messing with the carbs.E attracts water and maybe the carbs have some water in them.They might need cleaning.Check the float levels.Change the diaphram in the pump too.
