Finally getting some work done on my boat after its sat for a few years in my yard. It was a free boat that was given to me by my uncle after he realized how big of a project it was. It came with no sterndrive or engine and pretty much everything of any value was stripped.
First thing i found after digging decomposing leaves out of the boat was that the deck was soft as were many areas on the transom.

-This is how she sat when i went to pick her up

- I removed the deck and started chipping away at all the wet soggy foam

- Transom came out pretty easily around the drive hole and drain. The dry wood was really well bonded still.

-Stringers were intact by dry rotted up twards the bow and soaked at the stern end. I was able to do everything so far with the cap on to keep the hull from deforming to much.

- So far my plan is to replace the transom before removing the stringers completely. I will do 1 at a time to try and keep the boat from warping.

- Its taking quite a bit of grinding to remove the excessive resin build up at the bottom of the transom and filling the bilge area. In the bilge there was maybe 1/2" thick pure resin that had cracked . Also several blistering voids from the stringer layup had to be ground out.

So far thats all i have been able to do. We had a heat wave with days reaching 106?F and i was only able to find the splash resistant tyvek suits (basically a coated suit that doesnt breathe at all) and goggles that dont fit well over my resperator. Between the goggles filling with sweat and fiberglass dust and sloshing around in sweat filled boots i had to give it a break for a week.

Re: 85 Four Winns Santara 210 project

Sounds like you have a great project going on. I own an 1985 santara thAt I bought new. It has been a great boat, and I'm sure you will love it when complete.
I have lost one side of my windshield, and can't seem to find any parts out there for the santara. Was wondering if you have run across any good supplies in your travels, looking for parts? I have contacted a local glass co., they said would be less expensive and best fit if I could find the exact piece of glass.

Good luck with your project, and thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Thanks,
Howard
