I have a 1985 bayliner 1710 trophy with an 85 hp force ob motor. My steering cable ruptured so I'm in the process of replacing it. How do I get it loose from the rack and pinion assembly and from the motor? I've taken out the rack and pinion box but the cable doesn't seem to come loose from it. Also, I can't seem to pull it loose from the motor after loosening the nut. Last, the motor will only turn to the right (prop to starboard side). n It feels like it hit a stop at the center position and won't go past it to the left.

Thanks for your help!

Did you disconnect the end of the steering cable from the steering link arm? Once you do that it should slide out - if there is no room to pull the cable out completely from the tube you may need to remove the motor to make room to get it out.

Thanks! What about on the other end? Does the cable come out of the rack or is it one piece?

1 piece cable.Look on the cable it will have a number embossed into it.That will tell you what size it is.Go to any marine store and they(if they are good)will have it in stock or can get it the next day.J
