Can you check for compression and spark...and verify that fuel is getting to the cyl's?

TMD

You will have to go to a store that sells compression testers..purchase one, it should come with directions.

If not get back to me and I will let you know how.

TMD

managed to borrow the kit to test the compression and it was well within the limits so that is fine
Is there anything else you can suggest ?

This may sound stupid but, did you push the key in while turning it- in order to activate the choke?

Re: 85 hp Chrysler not starting problem

okay - I got a mechanic friend to check the engine and he is as confused as me.

I am holding the key into start. (for the auto choke)

the timing is fine, using the correct fuel and marine oil.
there is compression, battery voltage, fuel to the carbs, the plugs are sparking but it is still not starting, just turning over ?

Anybody got any other ideas as to what is wrong?

thanks again for your help
Andy

Re: 85 hp Chrysler not starting problem

Spray some fuel into the carbs, see if it fires<---this can be dangerous. Be careful.

It is safer to take the plugs out and put a small amount of fuel in the cyl's.

TMD
