I have a 1984, 85 HP Model 856x4l, sn 3151 Force engine. When I installed the prop after having it rebuilt, I stripped the thread where the long screw goes through the cone that covers the prop nut. Is there a part number on proper name for this. My Seloc manual is not clear on this.

Thanks again.

Not sure which part you are looking for, but any Mercury dealer carries them, maybe not in stock, but can get them from Mercury.

I have seen the cone installed on older Cheysler motors. Are they needed at all?

Re: 85 HP Force cone

I did find out what part it is, and I am able to buy one. Roscoe was correct, the part is listed in the Mercury site, but not availble. I did find at another source. Thanks.

I think the design intent is to keep the nut that holds the prop from comming off. I see no other reason for it. I would think a cotter pin would have been simpler. LOL
