I have a 1996 force motor (85hp). This motor starts and runs good until I go full throttle and then it bogs down. All I have checked is the compression. The compression is good. Any suggestions on what I should check next? Thanks

Re: 85 hp force troubleshooting help

Compression numbers would be good to know. Define "bogs down". Does it get up to max rpm, then slowly lose rpm. Or does it just not get to max rpm? If the compression numbers are indeed good (120psi even across all three cylinders) the next step would be to check the spark and fuel system. Get a spark tester and test spark, it should jump a 7/16" gap with a bright blue spark. Have the carbs been cleaned/rebuilt. Were they put back together correctly? Are the throttle plates horizontal when at full throttle? Does the fuel bulb collapse when running? Have you tried to squeeze the bulb when running at WOT, does it run better? How old is the gas? Check the fuel pump filter screen (clogged) and diaphragm(torn).

The compression is 130psi on cylinders 1 and 2 and 125 on cylinder 3. When i say " bogs down" I mean at full throttle we seem to stall. Kinda like we are not getting fuel. I have not done any of these other things so I guess I will start there. Thanks for the info.

Sounds like the tank vent line is clogged?
Or the inline connectors are leaking or sucking air.
Ethanol can melt the indide of older hoses hoses,so check for soft mushy hoses, and replace any suspect lines.
Check the fuel pump diaphram, clean the carbs.
Check for water in the gas.

Force 85hp were made in 83-89 1996 was 90hp???
