I have a 75 model johnson 85hp. V4 engine. The other day I took it out and ran it for about 20 min. The motor was doing fine until i got back to the boat ramp and then it just quit. It would not crank back up. so when i got home i checked my coils and one was bad. it had no continuity when checked by the ohm meter. replaced it and the motor started up but only ran for about 4 secs. it just seemed as if the motor was not getting any gas other than what i pumped from the primer bulb. so, i replaced the fuel pump and checked all my fuel lines and flushed them for trash. i even got a new gas tank. i also cleaned my carborator and the jets. the result was the same as before, would only run for a few secs. what i was wondering before i did any more investigating on the problem was if i should focus on my ignition system, power pack, stator and timer base to see if something electrical was shutting the engine off. or, do i have carborator problems. any suggestions would be helpful. thanks.
