I just bought my first motor boat and I'm trying to find out what year the motor is.<br />the model no.is 85esl73m.the serial no.j3860682.<br />I'm trying to find out what's wrong with the motor.The motor starts and runs but when I try to put it in gear the motor just cuts out.When I start the motor I have to use the choke each time.<br />Any help would be appreciated in this matter.

Hello dwhyble<br />If your rig has been sitting around for a while, it's probably time for a tune-up and service. Sounds to me like your fuel system, including carb, needs some cleaning. It could also be a safety switch or somthing. I would suggest that you obtain a repair manual. They are well worth the money. Even if you plan to hire out your service work, the book will help you understand what your paying for. Your motor is a 1973 model 85hp. Good luck happy boating.
