85 HP WE-18 Carb Leak!

I hope someone has a suggestion. My model 856A8B, 1988 85 HP Force engine has one carb out of three that leaks fuel at low RPM out the jet on the side of the carb, not the main jet in the bowl. This jet's number is Fo15337. I have checked the float level and cleaned the carb with no improvement. To see if it was a carb problem or perhaps the manafold I mounted the leaking carb on another cylinder and it still leaked. The float needle looks great with no rings or wear lines around it. The seat is hard to see so I have no idea of it's condition. When I blow thru the fuel inlet into the bowl and manually lift the bowl it seems to seal but I don't put much air pressure on it. The float seems to be sealed and without any liquid in it. The float level is the same as the other two carbs and level with the housing. Should I purchase a carb rebuild kit? Is there a way to remove the seat and replace it?

Thank you for any and all suggestions.

With the carb inverted the float should be level with the carb casting. With the carb upside down, it should seal against mouth pressure from just the weight of the float. If it does not seal, replace the needle and seat. I don't know the exact carb but all WB carbs have either a screw-in seat or a press-in seat.

If it is press-in, you thread in a self tapping screw and pull it out. This destroys the seat and it can not be reused.so you only do it if you intend to replace it.

If the float is one of the black foam type, they can get less buoyant when they're old. I guess they get fuel saturated. I've been able to set the float a tad lower to compensate. With the carburetor upside down, bend the adjusting tab just a hair so the the free end of the float is about 1/32" farther away from the housing than it should be. If that fixes the problem, you might want to consider replacing the float.

I had the same issue. Tried ordering a new plastic float. It didn't have an adjustable metal tab. I ended up getting a beat up set of carburetors from a late 1990's motor on E-Bay for $25 which had plastic floats with a metal tab to adjust float level. Used those and solved the problem.

Send me a PM with your e-mail.
I have a set for your motor.
I think I just rebuilt(have to check) or cleaned them.

Thank you. I'll try all your suggestions including the seat replacement once I check to see if seats are available for this carb.

Thank you. I'll check out the float and perhaps find a different carb on Ebay too.

If you buy on e-bay make sure the #s match your carbs.
They could have different jets in them.
Look for a complete set.J
