I have a 1973 mercury 850 which i recently replaced the trigger/distributor assembly in and also replaced the switchbox. The problem that i am haveing is that the flywheel has been removed and i am not sure if it is on correctly or not and i am having difficulty setting the timing belt correctly. I was wondering if there is anyway to set it correctly without the marks on the flywheel or if there is a way to be sure if the flywheel is mounted correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you
Egriff

pull #1 plug, rotate the motor by hand until the piston reaches Top Dead Center. align the flywheel with the necessary marks, and set the timing.

Yep. Also see the little nib on the pulley and the intake cover. Those nibs outta line up just as the motor hits TDC on #1

-W
