Hello guys,
I need some advice here. I have a 85 hp Chrysler that is giving me a hard start issue. It also likes to stall our at an idle. I have taken the carbs apart and ultrasonically cleaned them. I have synced the linkage based off of Franks video. All the carbs were started at 1/3 turn out and are no leaner than 1 turn in.The motor also will backfire periodically upon startup only. The video I took is the motor running. But this was while she was being good. My phone died shortly after the video was taken. Bu hopefully you can get some insight. I would love to know what that noise is.

Set the carbs at 1 full turn out and adjust from there.
Never have them in past the 1 full turn.
I set mine at 1 1/8th and they ran great.
BUT!! some carb setups need to be even further out??
A customers 84/85hp needed almost 3 full turns out to get it to idle.

Backfiring could be the air screws set wrong? or there is an air leak somewhere?

One tiny backfire can blow the port cover gasket and allow air in.
Once it's started, spray starting fluid around the intake bases and port covers(under the fuel pump) that make any change
in the way it runs? then it's sucking air and needs a gasket??

The boat did seem to run best around 1-1 1/8 turn anything more and she seemed to of stalled out. I would love to know what that noise is on the video. Is the Air adjuster the screw that is on the face of the carbs? When adjusting the carbs do I adjust all of them to the same. I.e. set all to 1 1/8. or is one going to be 1/14 and another might be at 1 turn out. I do not have a vacuum gauge. I do also have a Selco Manual. But I'm still running into issues.

The selco manual is the most baffling piece of literature on the market,
factory manual is best then clymer,

seloc would work ok as a door stop in the shed l suppose,

Like Tassie said the Seloc isn't the best read out there.
Yes that screw on the front is the air/fuel mix screw.
The screw on the bottom of the towershaft is for adjusting the idle.
The factory said on the 85hp to adjust them to 1 full turn out and leave them there.
I found mine ran better at 1 1/8th turn out on all cyl.

Seloc and Clymer are better than nothing(did I really say that?) they have a lot of info.
But that info covers a BUNCH of different models.
