Will rotating the armature of the tilt trim motor by hand or with a hand drill motor raise and motor? After getting stranded on the boat ramp with no way to get the boat on the trailer, I was trying to determine how to raise the engine manually.

After diassembling the trim tilt motor, I discovered that the brushes were completely destroyed and had fallen into the base of the motor sleeve. I have ordered a new brush and spring set, but still have no way to raise the motor without breaking the hydraulic lines.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes! Chuck it in a hand drill and turn it in the direction you need to go either up or down. It takes too long to turn it by hand. Be careful: the armature can pull up and the drive is only a flat part about 1/8 inch high. Even if it does pull out of the pump, it can be reinserted easily.

Great Thanks! I chucked it in the drill and it raised up very easily. I checked the hydraulic fluid and it is clear and clean. Would you recommend draining and replacing all fluids in the system or leaving it alone?
