85hp Force Problem

I have a 1989 Astroglass w/85hp Force. I lent my boat to a buddy and he brought it back to me and it wouldn't even start. I cleaned the carb.'s and replaced all the gaskets before he borrowed it. He told the boat rev'ed to 5000rpm's and he shut it down. Then he couldn't start the motor up and brought the boat back. On the throttle linkage there is a safty switch that is activated by a bar on the linkage when in neutral. I ajusted the threads on the linkage and the motor started just fine but I noticed that the lower unit was making a growling/knocking sound like it was partly in gear. I changed the lower unit gear oil and when I went to put the drain plug back in there was a metal plate that dropped down so the drain plug wouldn't go back in. <br /> Is there a simple solution to this problem. Please HELP!!!!

Re: 85hp Force Problem

You sir, have a problem...that was not a drain plug you pulled out, it was a shift linkage pivot screw....will probably require teardown of the gear housing to get it reinstalled correctly....
