My stator has 2 yellow outputs and 2 blue outputs with a plastic plug to each CD unit. The two blue ones are spliced together to make 1 robbing robbing the second CD unit of a blue output. Is that right? It's a 3 cyl. engine.

Secondly, how do you test the ohms resistence between them? Do i ground the black lead of the multimeter and test each wire with the positive lead or do i test them both at the same time?

Re: 85hp Force Stator Problems???

I just went thru this myself.
Check resistance between a set of yellow and blue.
Then check res. Between the other set of yellow and blue
should read in the area of .700 ohms
this is where you will find your problem more than likely if it is bad.
Also these engines had a problem with the stator breaking the magnets so check those out too for cracks or.....
The engines also had a hot spot to the stator which burned them rather quickly.
I went w/a cdi electronics stator which have alot heavier wires
which are said to almost never fail.150.00 @ outboardparts.com in florida
thats a great price for this stator which sells for 200.+ everywhere else.
Hope this helps.....

On the three cylinder engines this is correct! Each box has two halves that service two cylinders. the bottom box only uses one half. The blue charges one half and the yellow charges the other. On the box that only has one half being used, since blue and yellow are a pair with AC voltage, the blue must go somewhere, so they splice it to the other blue.
