I just put a new Head gasket on my engine. I took it to the river and left it straped down on the trailer. When I have the boat at an idle, there is a little water spitting out. When I speed up the engine, in gear, there is no water coming out. I put a new impeller in a week ago, but have not had it running since I have. Any thoughts?
Thanks, James.

p.s., the impeller job was fine. no problems.

Re: 85HP Force Water Flow

The exaust from the engine is putting too much air into the water collumn needed for the impeller to pick up, and is cavitating....probably. But your symptom is reverse of what happens when an impeller fails (not pumping in idle, fine or trickle at open throttle).
How is the compression now? I would check that, just to be sure there isn't a leak in the port plate gasket INTO the engine, where you can't see it.
Did you have the exaust port plate off? How was the water ports?

Re: 85HP Force Water Flow

Hi, thanks for answering.
The compression is fine. (148, 150, 150)
The only thing that I took off was the head. Is there anyway to flush the water passages? Can I take the boat to a carwash and use the pressure hose on the water pickup?
I thought that since I was not moving, no water was being forced into the pickup vents and the impeller was not sucking because not enough water was being forced to it.
